Artists and Teachers Of Paperclay

Im currently preparing a new book.

Paperclay Art and Practice- this one.

Art of Paperclay (tentative title of the next one)

by Rosette Gault

to be published by A and C Black/Bloomsbury, London, England, UK (with worldwide distribution, and translations.) It will be a larger size and completely rewritten and updated all color book.

This book will survey artists imagination, vision, and inspiration for form with the versatile medium of ceramic paperclay that has spread to worldwide use in recent years. It expands on recent developments and will include a foundation of practical technical knowlege for those who desire further advance.

Paperclay has found its way to the hands of thousands of artists over the last 20 years. Over 250 artists from 34 countries submitted porfolios for consideration between May-June of 2011. There is easily enough work for a second picture book. Our visions in paperclay ceramic and our works are quietly challenging the traditionalists to advance thier visions too.

The work that has been submitted is outstanding it is evidence of and international language involving vision. I am delighted and in wonderment at the sight of the works I never dreamed I would live long enough to see. We all will soon see. Each artist has brought some aspect of the topic to my attention that is part of getting a sense of what aspects of this big topic have been explored first and which aspects remain wide open or relatively unexplored to date.

Progress Report:

It is too early in the process to determine final selections of the images for this book. Many eyes will be reviewing the works submitted. We may not have a final list until late in 2012. Indeed there may be enough for a second book. I am taking alot of care with this book, it will be my best ever.

In addition to high quality, the most photogenic images have to fit within a graphic designers layout plus fit with the topics I'm writing about. I will attempt to visually balance the aesthetic with the practical and technical within the space available and this is quite an impersonal view. It could be that space for outstanding artwork may have to be sacrificed for space for the sharing of a new making process for example. Since there are plenty of how-to traditional method clay books I will give priority to the paperclay methods that will be impossible by traditional clay methods alone.

Please email me if you have a question or feel a strong urge to send me work that I should see that I havent yet- Just in case. There is a second picture book also coming.

Please join my artists email list so you can be updated when opportunities arise- such as symposiums, conferences, publication, exhibitions and more.

I hope you will be part of this synergy which will result when we can all see what themes we have been working on now. We in the studios perhaps unaware of all the coincidences and connections.

I thank everyone who has been supporting and encourgaging the development of this project over the years. The work that is being submitted is outstanding. I am delighted to see it and the spirit behind it.
